Social media for contractors, without the wasted posts

The short answer

Does social media bring in jobs for a trades company?

Some, but for most contractors and home-service companies social media works mainly as proof: Facebook, Nextdoor and Instagram are where homeowners check you're real and see your recent work before they call. Google is still where most people start looking for a local business, according to BrightLocal's 2026 consumer survey, with Facebook second.

That changes how you should run social. The goal isn't to go viral. It's to have recent, real job posts and quick replies on the one or two platforms your customers check, so that when someone finds you on Google and looks you up, what they see makes them call. Our social plan runs two platforms well for exactly that reason.

Which platforms are worth it for local trades

Share of US adults who use each platform, from Pew Research Center's social media fact sheet (survey January 30 to June 18, 2026; published October 19, 2026). The "Our view" column is our judgment for local service businesses, not survey data.

PlatformUS adults using itOur view for local trades
Facebook70%Worth it for almost every trade. Homeowners check your page, read reviews and ask for recommendations in local groups. BrightLocal's 2026 survey ranked Facebook second only to Google as a place people look for local businesses.
Nextdoor18%Small reach, but it's all neighbors asking "who do you use?". Good for residential service companies in the neighborhoods you work.
Instagram51%Worth it for visual trades: pools, remodeling, kitchens, cabinets, landscaping, flooring. Less so for repair-only work like plumbing or pest control.
YouTube84%Good for short how-it's-done and before-and-after videos that also show up in Google. Needs real footage, so it takes more of your time.
LinkedIn31%Worth it for commercial contractors and B2B shops selling to builders, property managers and facilities. Rarely useful for homeowner leads.
TikTok37%Can build a brand if you or a crew member enjoys being on camera. Viewers are often outside your service area, so it's rarely a steady lead source.
X (Twitter)18%Not worth your time for local service leads, in our view.

Pick the two where your customers already are. For most residential trades that's Facebook plus either Instagram or Nextdoor. For commercial work, it's LinkedIn plus Facebook.

What to post when you're doing it in-house

  • Finished jobs, with the town named ("New tile roof, [town]"). Get the homeowner's OK first.
  • Before-and-after pairs shot from the same spot.
  • Your crew by first name, in uniform, on the job.
  • Seasonal reminders that match your area's calendar: AC checks before summer, storm prep before storm season.
  • Answers to the questions customers ask on the phone.
  • Your Google reviews, shared with the customer's permission.

Skip memes, generic quotes and stock photos. They don't show anyone you do good work.

FAQ

Social media questions

Will social media get me more jobs?

It can help people choose you, and some leads will come straight from it. For most trades it won't replace Google search and referrals as the main source, so we track the leads it produces and you can decide if it's paying.

Do I need to be on every platform?

No. An empty or stale page looks worse than no page. Two platforms kept current beat five left alone.

Who takes the photos?

You and your crews do, on your phones, because real job photos are what work. We turn them into posts. If you can't supply photos, we'll tell you which posts we can still make well.

Do you run paid social ads?

No. We don't run paid ads on Meta, LinkedIn or Google; we focus on websites, SEO and software. This plan covers posting, replies and reporting.
