How a contractor website is structured, page by page

The short answer

What a contractor website has to get right

A contractor website works when a homeowner or facility manager can confirm, on a phone in under a minute, that you do their exact job in their town, that your work looks good, and that asking you for a quote is easy. Stewart Code designs contractor websites for roofers, remodelers, HVAC, pool, flooring, cabinet and other trade companies anywhere in the US around those three checks, at fixed prices.

This page is about the website itself: its structure, its pages and its quote form. For contractor website design and local SEO as a whole, including your Google Business Profile, reviews and prices, see websites and SEO for contractors.

Site structure

The anatomy of a contractor site

Each part exists because a buyer is looking for it. Leave one out and that buyer goes back to the search results.

PartWhat the buyer is checkingHow we build it
One page per money service"Do they do my job, or just something near it?"A page for each service you want more of: what's involved, the materials you use, the questions you get, real photos
Service-area pages"Do they come to my town?"Only for towns you really serve, each with something true and local to say, never a copied page with the city name swapped
Project gallery"Is their work any good?"Your job photos, captioned with the job type and town, compressed so they load fast on mobile data
License and insurance line"Are they legit?"Your license number and insurance status in plain text, near the quote button
Quote form"How much hassle is this?"Few fields, big tap targets, photo upload, and an instant confirmation so they know it arrived
Tap-to-call"Can I just talk to someone?"A phone button visible on every screen of the mobile layout

The quote form

What to ask on a contractor quote form, and what to leave off

Every extra field loses some people. These are the ones that earn their place.

Ask

Fields that help you price the job

  • Name and mobile number
  • ZIP code, so you can tell at a glance if it's in your area
  • Job type, as a short pick list
  • Optional photos of the problem
  • Rough timing: urgent, this month, planning ahead

Skip

Fields that just cost you leads

  • Full street address on the first contact
  • Budget ranges people don't know yet
  • "How did you hear about us" as a required field (we track the source automatically)
  • A CAPTCHA puzzle; we use invisible spam checks instead

Pair the form with an instant text or email back, and fewer leads go cold while your crew is on a roof. That is the most common first project for an AI automation sprint.

What you get

How it runs

Built around your schedule, not ours

One call

We go through your services, towns, margins and the jobs you'd rather not get. That last one shapes the site as much as the first.

Photo drop

You send job photos from your phone. We sort, caption and compress them.

Approve the mockup

You see the home page and one service page with real words before anything else is built.

Launch and test

We submit a test quote from a phone on mobile data, confirm it reaches you, and hand over the scores.

Questions

Contractor website questions

Should I make a separate page for every city I serve?

Only for cities where you have something real to say, such as jobs done there or a crew based nearby. Pages that are copies with the city name swapped tend to do nothing, and Google's spam policies list pages "targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page" as doorway abuse (Google Search Central, updated 2026-08-28).

I don't have good photos. Is that a problem?

It is the most common gap, and it can be fixed. Phone photos of finished jobs, taken in daylight, are better than stock photos. We'll send you a short shot list to use on your next few jobs.

Do I need a website if I get most of my work from referrals?

Referred customers still look you up before they call. The site is where they confirm what the referral said, so it has to load fast and look like the company they were told about.

Can the website connect to my job management or CRM software?

Often, yes. Quote requests can be sent into most field-service and CRM tools. We confirm your specific software on the scoping call.

Will a new website get me more calls?

We can't promise a number, and anyone who does is guessing. What we promise is a site that loads fast, is error-free for search engines, and makes calling or requesting a quote easy. Care + Search then works on getting it found.
